There really is no reason to interact with it. Sure you sell raw materials to the town, but it is not required. r/mountandblade is incredibly active and I see the occasional warband post there as well as bannerlord. Give them a follow as well. And yes, warband is super janky but lots of fun and it has a great management aspect, which seems like it will appeal to you.
